Paolo Nutini: Paolo Nutini Live

Little Star Little Star Little Star Little Star
Venue: Civic Hall, Wolverhampton

So you thought Paolo Nutini was a one-album wonder, did you? A hip, cute lookin' Scot with Italian antecedents whose songs for vacillating lovers made These Streets the populist choice for 2006, but wouldn't endure beyond that. Got it wrong, didn't you?

Last time Nutini played Wolverhampton, he was preaching to the converted. Oh, how they rejoiced back then when he delivered the sermon they wanted to hear, including Last Request', 'New Shoes' and 'Janey Don't Be Hasty'. This time around, on the cusp of releasing his second album, Sunny Side Up, Nutini had a new homily. But on the evidence of the ecstatic reception he got here, he'll take his old congregation with him. And then some.

'Coming Round Again' found him letting his soulful side all hang out, '10/10' sounded like it could have come straight out of Studio One, and 'Candy', the swoonsome first single from Sunny Side Up, had the girls - and there were plenty of them - professing their love for Nutini.

Of course, the material from These Streets got an airing - there was an especially gorgeous stripped down 'Last Request' - but really this was all about Nutini's second album. The second coming, if you'd prefer. Cynics take heed - the boy's a stayer.
