Unbunny: Snow Tires

Little Star Little Star Little Star Little Star Little Star
Label: Hidden Agenda

Oasis built a career flogging Lennon'n'Macca scrapyard re- sprays, and you'd be forgiven for suggesting that, similarly, the songs on Snow Tires are re-treads of After The Goldrush -era Neil Young. Listen again. These are no piss-pale imitations or Gallagher-esque rip-offs. They're not even homage. They're much better than that.

Seattle's Unbunny breed a brand of music that burrows beyond Neil Young in a direction he could and maybe should've taken. These tyre tracks are deeply subtle refinements of their source. Neil Youngsters they may be, but each is a proudly bastard offspring, long since grown apart from him.

This is, quite simply, a magnificent album. It's achingly beautiful. There's not one weak track here. You listen and re-listen. One time 'I leave Stones Unturned' and 'Pink Lemonade' shine and make you shiver. Next time, it's 'PM' and 'Snow Tires'. Later others abruptly shimmy and shimmer into the limelight.

This eleven-song UK release features two tracks not on the original 2004 US album. 'X' and 'The Path' - both stunning - come from their rare 2005 EP 'Typist'. Buy this album. It'll vastly improve the soundscape of your life. Soon, like me, you'll be prowling the internet for their earlier albums.
