Steve McCormick - download his latest album for free

Steve McCormick is a thirty-three year old singer-songwriter based near Carlisle, Cumbria, described in the last issue of R2 as a 'singer-songwriter on a mission to make British-generated country music cool'. His debut album, Lowlights And Footnotes, on which he performed every instrument other than pedal steel, was self-released late last year and was greeted with lavish praise from the likes of Maverick, Sound on Sound and Americana UK.

Recently, he made the decision to release the album via his website as a free download, with voluntary donations welcome:

"I'll be honest, the album has sold a little less than I had hoped and I want people to hear my music. Having self-financed and self-released the album it cost quite a lot of money, and I'd rather people heard it than not. I think it's just the way of the world right now, in that gigging is where it's at, income-wise, and the best place to sell CDs. There are arguments that giving away the album devalues it but I'd like to think that the people who do listen to it get something out of it, at least a little more than considering it worthless!"
